Spanish

We offer a range of Spanish language levels to suit beginner through to a higher conversation level (details below). You will be taught a range of topics designed to help you when travelling, going on holiday, communicating with relatives, using the language for business etc.

All our language courses run from September to July. You enrol prior to each term commencing. There may be an opportunity to enrol mid course—call 0161 419 3620 to enquire.

Online enrolment will be available from 1st August.

Course Outline

This course is intended for complete beginners with no previous experience of Spanish.

The course covers a range of topics including meeting people and introducing yourself and others, talking about yourself, ordering drinks and snacks, directions and tourist information, accommodation and travel arrangements, shopping, Spanish festivals and celebrations, numbers and times, restaurants and understanding menus

By the end of the course you will have:

  • been exposed to the Spanish-speaking world
  • developed basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills
  • an understanding of basic grammatical rules
  • the skills to communicate using basic Spanish language.

Experience needed

No previous experience of Spanish needed

  • BBC Talk Spanish 1 (book and CD pack)
  • Paper or notebook to write in

Course Outline

If you have completed a beginner’s course in Spanish or have studied some basic Spanish some time ago and wish to brush up on your language skills, then this course is for you.

The course covers a range of topics which will build on your existing knowledge of Spanish and increase your confidence.

By the end of the course you will have been exposed to the Spanish-speaking world, developed basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, an understanding of basic grammatical rules, and the skills to communicate using basic Spanish language.

The tutor will provide additional resources to support the coursebook material.

Experience needed

You should have already done Spanish at beginners level before starting this course. If you have studied at Aquinas College Adult Centre previously, you will have just completed Spanish (Beginners).

What you will need to bring

  • BBC Talk Spanish 2 coursebook (comes as a pack with 2 audio CDs)
  • Paper or notebook

Course Outline

This course is aimed at anyone who has completed a minimum of 2 years of Spanish and wish to build on your existing knowledge whilst continuing to improve and enjoy learning and speaking Spanish.

It focuses on the progressive development of reading, listening, writing and speaking skills, with a strong emphasis on conversation.

The tutor will provide a range of materials to support the coursebook.

Experience needed

You should have already done 2 years of Spanish before starting this course. If you have studied at Aquinas College Adult Centre previously, you will have just completed Spanish (Year 2 ).

What you will need to bring

  • Paper or notebook to write in
  • BBC Talk Spanish 2 coursebook was begun in Year 2, and will continue to be used in Year 3.

Course Outline

This course is aimed at learners who have completed a minimum of 4/5 years of Spanish and wish to build on their existing knowledge whilst continuing to improve and enjoy learning and speaking Spanish.

It focuses on the progressive development of reading, listening, writing and speaking skills, with a strong emphasis on conversation and confidence-building.

The tutor will provide a range of resources to stimulate individual, group and pair work and encourage further discussion in a range of topics.

The tutor will be using the coursebook Aula Internacional Plus 3 and other associated materials and resources. The tutor will provide all the student material for use both and class and any follow-on work at home.

Experience needed

Students should have already done 3 or 4 years of Spanish before starting this course. If you have studied at Aquinas College Adult Centre previously, you will have just completed Spanish (Year 4).

What you will need to bring

  • Paper or notebook
