Dressmaking

Tuesday (6.00pm – 8.00pm)

This class is designed for total beginners and those at intermediate level. We will start with the basics, and you will develop your skills over the course. You will learn to use a sewing machine, alongside familiarising yourself with other essential sewing equipment.

There will be a choice of first projects. You can either make a reversible tote bag with zipped pocket and boxed corners or a roll top insulated lunch bag with rouleau loop and button fastening.

Later in the course you will learn to self-draft a skirt pattern to fit your measurements.

Finally, you will make a garment of your choice (with guidance) using a commercial sewing pattern. You will learn to read and understand pattern envelopes, pattern markings, layout diagrams and commercial pattern instructions.

No previous experience needed.

You will be required to provide some equipment yourself, however, your teacher will advise you week on week what to bring (e.g. scissors, pins, needles, threads, tailors chalk, a tape measure and material).

Sewing machines and other basic equipment will be provided.
