Baking for Beginners

Tuesday (6.00pm – 8.00pm)

This course is designed for anyone with little or no experience in baking, starting with basic recipes demonstrated and explained step by step, and gradually increasing the difficulty level as the course progresses.

As you become more confident in working independently, you will be given a choice of recipes and skill levels, and can build up a portfolio of useful recipes which they can make (or remake!) at home. At the end of the course, you can, if they wish, progress to the “Further Baking” course which starts in January.

On this course you will be making; scones, biscuits, cookies, cupcakes, shortcrust pastry, Victoria Sandwich, bread, sweet pastry and festive baked items.

No prior baking experience needed.

Each week, you will need to bring an apron, a tea towel, ingredients and something to carry your finished products home in (e.g. a tub or a tin).

Sometimes, you may be required to bring an additional piece of equipment (e.g. a cake tin or an electric hand whisk), but this will be advised the preceding week.

We provide a fully equipped teaching kitchen, with some store-cupboard ingredients (e.g. baking powder, salt etc.) and some basic non-food items (e.g. baking paper, cling film etc.).
